Orleans School Committee Prepays FY27 Tuition Costs
School Committee · Meeting of August 17, 2026
Orleans School Committee closes FY26 books with a $69,836 gap covered by state and town funds. A finance presenter identified only as Beth told the committee the district's year-end deficit was offset by $15,000 in state "extraordinary relief" and a $138,000 town transfer from the special education stabilization fund. Members voted unanimously to prepay $31,633 in special education tuition costs for fiscal 2027.
Committee member Ron pressed the board on who should fund recurring school repairs, citing roughly $60,000 in sprinkler work, a pending $7,600 fire alarm bill, and "seven toilets to fix between now and the start of the school" that have come out of the building and facilities budget rather than a dedicated maintenance line. The committee also corrected its 2026-27 meeting calendar and floated an untelevised retreat before its September 14 meeting.
