Orleans Economic Development Committee presses for follow-through on a draft cultural plan while awaiting a rewritten charge. Staff presenter Amanda told the panel the town's Local Impact Grant Program awarded 11 grants this cycle, though one recipient, a downtown boutique owner, is relocating to Harwich Port after failing to find space in Orleans. Members spent much of the September 8 meeting critiquing a draft Cultural District Plan built on 165 survey responses and dozens of interviews, questioning funding for dedicated cultural staff and flagging a missing historic-preservation strategy.
Town staffer Mike Salitro said the Select Board is reviewing roughly 20 to 25 committee charges this year, including this one, last updated in 2022. "It's hard as the chair to be making up an agenda that then has no relation to anything else happening in town," one member said. The committee voted 6-0 to adjourn after setting its next meeting for October 13.
