Other Committee · Meeting of August 18, 2026
Orleans Affordable Housing Trust spent its August 18 meeting narrowing a three-year-old 10-year plan into near-term priorities. Staff coordinator Elizabeth reported the town's subsidized housing inventory stands at 11 percent, with 62 units coming at Governor Prence, 60 at Fair Village and 14 at 107 Main Street. Member Scott pushed for a fresh, data-based needs assessment, saying "I don't know people in my community who need affordable housing" has become a common refrain.
The board heard a $100,000-per-unit deed-restriction incentive has drawn zero developer responses in a year, and that the Community Preservation Committee has shifted funding toward open space while no general-fund appropriation to the Trust has occurred recently. New member Richard White, a retired banker, was introduced. The meeting's only vote, a unanimous motion to adjourn, came at 6:14 p.m.
