Board of Health approves four variances, continues one
Board of Health · Meeting of September 17, 2026
Orleans Board of Health approves septic and pool-fence variances, one homeowner withdraws fence-free bid. The board voted 5-0 to grant a 23-foot wetland setback variance for a septic upgrade at 9 Carver Road and a tank-capacity variance at 124 Barley Neck Road, plus a 110-foot pool-fence relocation variance at 10 Ridgewood Road. At 39 Champlain Road, owner Andrew Tubman withdrew his request to skip fencing around a pool that already had water in it, after member Sims McGrath Jr. said photos showed "daylight can be seen through the trees" and the board could not find the vegetation equivalent to a fence.
The board also fined Speedway $1,000 for a first violation selling tobacco to someone under 21, approved minutes 4-0-1 twice, and heard that Phase 3 of the town's sewer project has begun, tearing up Finley Road near Route 28.
