Board of Health approves pool, septic variances
Board of Health · Meeting of October 1, 2026
Orleans Board of Health clears pool fence and septic variances, tightens raw bar rules. The board voted 5-0 to let Nicole Boucher's 60 Cedar Lane pool fence sit 29.8 feet from the pool apron, a 9.8-foot variance, conditioned on a motorized safety cover and alarmed gates. Members also voted 5-0 to grant septic setback variances up to 48 feet under Title 5 and local drainage rules for a 1 Namskicket Road office-to-residence conversion.
Citing "an uptick in the number of Vibrio cases" this summer, staff said raw bar vendors at temporary events must now get board variances; the board approved one 5-0 for Billingsgate Market's raw bar at the October 10 Roots and Blues Festival. The board also renewed a lapsed tanning permit for Nauset Fit Co. and approved July 16 minutes 4-0-1, with member Joseph Hartung abstaining.
