Parade panel approves minutes, debriefs 2026 parade
Other Committee · Meeting of September 15, 2026
Orleans Fourth of July Parade Committee debriefs a hot, bigger-expectations 2026 parade and floats a possible restructuring. Members approved June 16 meeting minutes 6-0 by roll call, then spent most of the meeting on logistics: a first-ever Harwich police detail that helped manage crowding, band members struggling with heat and parking, and persistent gaps between floats that viewers keep flagging. Christy Mack, who led post-parade cleanup, called the effort "slightly productive" against the volume of litter, mostly Tootsie Rolls and promotional handouts, and proposed route-side trash bins with cleanup signage.
Liaison Michael Harmon said the Select Board is reviewing all committee charges and that any shift of the parade's organization toward the Recreation Department or Cultural Council would hinge on "direction from you guys." Two associate-member seats opened as Ken Johnson and Hilary Johnson term off. The committee skips October and reconvenes November 17 at 5 p.m.
