Orleans Conservation Commission Continues Boathouse Case, Approves Three Other Applications

ORLEANS — June 16, 2026 — Orleans Conservation Commission approves three coastal projects and continues a boathouse renovation case to July 7. The commission voted unanimously to approve a Notice of Intent for Paul and Lynn Ivans at 30 Deer Run, finding a net 33-square-foot reduction in building coverage acceptable within the Mill Pond coastal bank buffer, with special conditions requiring composite trim cutting inside the garage and native foundation plantings. A revised pool enclosure fence plan for Christopher Fraleigh at 21 Little Bay Road was also approved, with a mitigation ratio now at 26.4 to 1 following an additional 325 square feet of native lawn removal. The commission continued the Sean Delude boathouse renovation at 0 South Orleans Road to July 7 after directing staff to prepare draft findings and special conditions, including a requirement that no work proceed until a state Chapter 91 license is secured; a rebar stabilizer on the retractable rear stairway that would contact Aries Pond bottom was directed to be removed. The meeting also featured a presentation by Andy Fallon of Interfluve Inc. on a concept design, commissioned by the Orleans Conservation Trust, to restore the Namequoit Bog by replacing a 12-inch culvert beneath Namequoit Road and removing a sluice gate, which modeling showed could restore daily tidal inundation to two-thirds of the degraded former cranberry bog and create functioning salt marsh within roughly one year of construction.
