ORLEANS — The Orleans Conservation Commission approved six projects and postponed a tree-removal request pending a site visit. Chair Jerry Wander presided as the board unanimously approved a Title V septic upgrade at 15 Franz Road, an addition at 10 Thayer Lane, and bank-restoration work at 27 and 34 Carleton Road for owner Mary E. Heiser. Members rounded up sand-nourishment allowances for the Carleton Road gabions from J.M. O'Reilly's calculated 18 and 20 cubic yards to an allowance of up to 40 cubic yards each, after commissioner Dick Hilmer argued the original figures undersold the site's limited access.

The board also approved a revised landscape plan at 64 Pershing Lane adding a fifth eastern red cedar, and a staircase replacement at 9 Sheep's Pasture Point. Commissioners Drusy Henson and Judith Bruce declined to vote on removing three trees at Mark and Elizabeth Burnett's riverfront property, saying they were "very concerned about approving this number of trees coming down without replanting," and scheduled a site visit before the item returns November 3.
