Fire Station Panel Splits 5-4, Forwards Design Pick
Other Committee · Meeting of August 3, 2026
Orleans fire station panel splits 5-4 over brick versus clapboard, punts final call to Select Board. The Fire Station Building Committee, chaired by David Little, voted 5-4 for a gray-brick-and-clapboard exterior over an all-clapboard option after architect Paolo Carissimi of TGAS presented three revised designs for the roughly $55 million project. Fire Chief Jeff Dearing and DPW Director Rich Waldo backed brick for durability; resident Megan Kelly said the brick options still had "too much going on." AECOM engineer Tim Harrison pegged sewer connections at $1.1 million to $1.8 million versus a $152,000 septic system for the station's wastewater.
The committee voted unanimously to forward its split result, plus the fact that every public commenter preferred the clapboard option, to the Select Board, which takes up the design Wednesday as item 10.
