School Committee · Meeting of October 19, 2026

ORLEANS — The Orleans School Committee heard a lengthy school security briefing from Police Chief McDonald and approved routine business on 4-0 roll-call votes. McDonald told the committee Orleans Elementary still lacks a daily school resource officer, saying he is "training a liaison that's trained as a school resource officer" to check in periodically instead. He urged residents to report concerning behavior, noting warning signs "have been there each time" in past school shootings nationally.

Superintendent Glenn said a memorandum of understanding on school resource officers between Nauset Public Schools and four police departments remains "unchanged from last year." The committee approved the PTC's 2026-27 fundraising calendar and September 14 minutes, each 4-0, and heard that the district had spent $386,580, or 7.3 percent, of its operating budget through the first quarter, with $1.23 million, or 23 percent, still available.
