Planning Board · Meeting of October 13, 2026

ORLEANS — The Orleans Planning Board reviewed a staff-compiled inventory of downtown planning efforts and debated the lack of a public gathering space, taking no vote on a formal master plan. Planning staff member George walked members through a dozen past and current initiatives, from a 2012 streetscape plan to the new downtown housing overlay district, saying the town is "actively pursuing businesses to come to Orleans." Chair Debbie Oakes and members Lynne Eickholt, Francesca Galazzi, John Ostman and Peter Pohlemus were all present and agreed to pursue a future meeting with the Historical Commission on preservation policy. Staff said a November Special Town Meeting article would let overlay-district housing projects be built as 100 percent income-restricted units, with eight to ten properties already active.

The board unanimously approved minutes from three prior meetings, including the September 22 minutes as amended at Eickholt's request.
