Orleans Select Board approves Veterans Memorial Park granite sign design in 3-0 vote

ORLEANS — April 29, 2026 — Orleans Select Board votes 3-0 on Veterans Memorial Park sign and Eldredge Park Way acquisition step. The board, comprising Chair Kevin Galligan and members Andrea Shaw-Reed and Matt Runyon, approved the design for a 33-by-24-inch pink Westerly granite sign at Veterans Memorial Park at Academy Place, to be cut from stone salvaged from the World War One monument renovation, at an estimated cost of $8,600 with no funding yet committed. In a separate 3-0 vote, the board formally determined that the parcel at 48 Eldredge Park Way is unique real property under MGL Chapter 30B, triggering a 30-day central register posting period before the town may proceed with acquisition — still subject to town meeting approval. The bulk of the roughly four-hour session was a working workshop on a draft omnibus environmental sustainability policy that consolidates four existing standalone policies into a single twelve-section document; no vote was taken on that policy, with a follow-up workshop set for May 6 at 3 p.m.
