ORLEANS — April 14, 2026 — Orleans Economic Development Committee backs first-ever $150,000 town budget line for economic development. The committee, meeting April 14, expressed unanimous support for a proposed FY27 appropriation that Economic Development Communications Director Amanda said would fund the town's first standalone economic development budget line — covering continuation of the local impact grant program, consultant fees, a new business website, town-wide mailers, and technical assistance for local businesses. "There has never been an economic development line on the town's budget before, so we're making progress," Amanda told members. Business owner and member Dave described paying $70,000 in sewer hookup costs and $230,000 in privilege fees as an illustration of the barriers facing new and expanding businesses in Orleans's seasonal economy.
