Orleans COA Approves Minutes, Preps Fall Closure
Council on Aging · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Orleans Council on Aging will close most senior center programs for three weeks starting October 5 for major repairs. Director Judi Wilson told the board the closure covers a roof replacement, solar panel work, and phone and AV upgrades, but essential services like transportation, respite care, and supportive daycare will continue uninterrupted. The center also received a $10,000 grant from the Cape Cod Fund for the Elderly at the Cape Cod Foundation for its caregiver support program, and senior tax work-off applications have jumped to seven or eight this year from two in prior years.
A separate backup generator project has come in over budget, with Finance Director Darren, Assistant Town Manager Mark, and DPW Director Rich Waldo working to fund it without borrowing ahead of the November 16 Special Town Meeting. Wilson said "the biggest challenge we have right now is workforce issues," citing a position vacant seven to nine months in each of the last four years. The board voted unanimously to approve its August minutes and will rank its top five FY27 priorities by email before the October 28 meeting.
