Snow Library Trustees Elect New Chair, Leave Treasurer Seat Vacant

ORLEANS — June 2, 2026 — Snow Library trustees reorganize and debate the future of a new library building. The Snow Library Board of Trustees elected Lindsay Goodman as chair on a 6-0 vote at Tuesday's annual reorganizational meeting, succeeding outgoing Chair Jamie Balliett, who used his final meeting to propose forming a working group to evaluate whether the long-planned new library building project should continue or give way to a scaled-back renovation. Tracy Murphy was elected vice chair and Mark Somek corresponding secretary, both unanimously; the treasurer position was left vacant. Balliett pointed to a crowded capital pipeline — a new fire station, police station, DPW building, and ongoing sewer project — and cited the failed Yarmouth library ballot vote, which lost by roughly 1,000 votes and cost that town a state construction grant, as a cautionary example. The Friends of Snow Library reported year-to-date net income of approximately $77,000 and announced a major donor event June 11 at Town Cove Pub, which Balliett suggested could be used to identify future library building benefactors.
