Orleans Select Board Reviews Warrant Articles, Approves New Visual Brand System
ORLEANS — February 11, 2026 — Orleans Select Board kicks off annual town meeting warrant review, unveils new visual brand. The board received a first look at ancillary financial requests for the spring annual town meeting at its February 11 session, including a $215,000 water quality and monitoring package covering six water bodies, a $125,000 Conservation Commission fund request, and a $45,000 Emergency Operations Center upgrade sought by Chief Deering. Chair Kevin Galligan pressed for a defined endpoint on Cedar Pond monitoring, which he said has accumulated more than half a million dollars in spending, telling colleagues "I think it's time we take a breath and figure out what do we do going forward." Staff member Amanda Converse then presented a completed visual branding system developed with Cape-based firm Super at Studio, chosen from 35 respondents to an RFP, incorporating a primary logo, an "Orleans blue" color palette, and a roughly 20-page design guide — explicitly not a replacement for the town seal, which remains the official legal symbol. Michael Herman presented Community Preservation Committee project recommendations, including $300,000 for the Affordable Housing Trust and a $1 million Eldridge Park line item clarified as a bond-reduction drawdown, not new spending; the CPC retained a $146,000 balance after its allocations. The board voted 4-0 to approve corrected August 28, 2024 minutes before entering executive session on an open meeting law complaint brought by Jerusha Maccabee.
