Orleans Fire Rescue Committee Reaffirms Elementary School Property as Station Site

ORLEANS — July 21, 2025 — Orleans Fire Rescue Building Committee reaffirms elementary school property as the working site for a new station. The committee, chaired by David Little, heard a detailed retrospective from member Peter Kineen on four years of prior site studies, including a 2022 response-time analysis that identified the area around the existing Eldridge Parkway station as optimal and ruled out alternative town-owned sites including the former DPW property on Bay Ridge Lane and a parcel near Town Hall. Kineen said a facility in the 30,000-to-35,000-square-foot range has been identified as the likely need. The committee also learned that a required Central Register posting for its owner's project manager RFQ had run in the wrong section of the state publication, pushing the proposal deadline from August 1 to August 8 and the committee's review meeting from August 4 to August 11; the overall OPM selection target of September 15 was not changed. The committee voted unanimously to reschedule its August 4 meeting to August 11 and approved its July 14 minutes as amended, correcting a reference to "OES" to "NRSD" in the future agenda items section.
