Finance Committee · Meeting of October 8, 2026
ORLEANS — The Orleans Finance Committee voted against recommending two contested warrant articles ahead of the November 16 Special Town Meeting. Members rejected resident Charlie Carlson's $300,000 citizens petition for a Nauset estuary water-quality study 2-4-2, with member Todd Sullivan arguing it "is not going to meet the threshold of what we discussed about material financial impact." The panel also voted 2-5-1 against $450,000 for design work at the historic 44 Main Street building, with Select Board liaison Michael noting the project has reached three unanimous town meeting votes since 2012 but no decided use. Chair David Abel's committee separately approved, 8-0, a $500,000 Council on Aging backup generator and a $100,000 Nauset Marsh nitrogen study, plus several routine fee and borrowing articles.
