Orleans Transportation and Bikeways Advisory Committee held a community meeting on the Beach Road feasibility study. Chair Peter Allgeier and committee members Stephanie Gaskill, Robert McDonald, Joel Porten, and Griffin Ryder, along with Planning Director George Meservey and Deputy DPW Director Calvin Sutton, heard VHB engineer Josh Cone-Reddy present preliminary options 2 and 3. Eighteen residents commented, favoring a design with ten-foot travel lanes, two-foot shoulders, and a six-foot sidewalk; raising safety concerns about high speeds, poor visibility at the Beach Road and Nauset Heights intersection, and dangerous conditions at the East Orleans Post Office crosswalk; and proposing bike sharrows, speed cameras or bumps, curved straightaways, improved vegetation maintenance, and enhanced enforcement.
