Select Board · Meeting of June 2, 2026

Orleans Select Board and School Committee heard findings from a regional study examining school consolidation across the four-town Nauset region. The study, presented by consultants from HMFH Architects and Civic Solutions Group, found elementary and middle school enrollment declined approximately 12 percent over the past five years, though overall enrollment is projected to remain stable over the next decade with variations by town. Consultants presented five operational scenarios ranging from maintaining the current structure to creating regional pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade schools, noting that regionalization could reduce administrative and facility costs while maintaining average class sizes below 20 students.

The Steering Committee announced it would continue gathering public feedback through June and would evaluate options and explore governance and operational improvements.
