Orleans Recreation Advisory Committee Chair Jamie Balliet resigned amid a dispute over a recreation regionalization proposal, as the Eldridge Park renovation moves ahead with town funding.

ORLEANS --

TOWN -- Jamie Balliet's resignation from the Recreation Advisory Committee came before the Select Board on Sept. 23 as item 10, packaged within the meeting's consent agenda. Several residents urged the board to pull it out for separate consideration rather than vote it through with other routine items.

Tracy Murphy of Gull Lane, speaking during public comment, credited Balliet with helping drive the Eldridge Park renovation, including outreach to the Nauset Regional School Committee, Orleans Senior Tennis, the Orleans Council on Aging, the Children's Place, and the Orleans Parent Teacher Committee in support of Community Preservation Act funding for the project, which she said the CPC approved.

Steve Gibson of Gibson Road, also speaking in public comment, said Balliet's resignation followed public alarm over a recreation regionalization proposal that appeared in the Select Board's Aug. 26 meeting packet and was also discussed at a Brewster Select Board meeting, catching many Orleans residents by surprise. Gibson asked the board to remove the resignation item from the consent agenda, consider it on its own, reject the resignation, and work with Balliet "to move forward in a positive direction."

The portion of the meeting transcript provided ends before the Select Board took action on the Balliet item.
