Orleans Historical Commission refines demolition delay property definitions

Historical Commission · Meeting of March 11, 2026

Orleans Historical Commission refines property definitions for demolition delay bylaw. Chair Edmund Marcarelli led the Commission through discussion of how to clarify which properties qualify for protection under Chapter 106, with the current historic property record listing 595 structures. The Commission heard from Chris Skelly on historic preservation training services and engaged legal advisor Zender, who recommended setting a definitive cut-off date for automatic historic designation.

The Commission discussed the 1905 structure at 355 Tonset Road but took no vote, deciding instead that no clear reason existed to call a hearing on the property.
