Orleans Agricultural Council to challenge 50-foot livestock fencing setback

Orleans council takes aim at livestock setback limiting farm animals in town. The Orleans Agricultural Advisory Council unanimously approved its January minutes and agreed to research and pursue changes to the Right to Farm Bylaw after farmer Ryan Birchall testified that the town's 50-foot livestock fencing setback effectively prohibits animal agriculture for most residents. Council member Matt Milan volunteered to consult a Town Hall attorney about amendment options.
The Putnam Farm barn project received design approval and building permits; the Council also heard updates on successful winter farmers markets and school garden grants at the Orleans Middle School.
