Orleans water quality committee unanimously backs $215,000 warrant article for May Town Meeting. Chair Carolyn Auty and the Marine and Fresh Water Quality Committee voted to support funding for three regulatory compliance programs (Lonnie's Pond, Cedar Pond, and Namskaket Marsh monitoring totaling $95,000) and three additional initiatives including Cedar Pond Phase 2 sediment evaluation ($30,000), Baker Pond alum treatment ($80,000), and water quality consultation ($10,000). Town Planning Director George Meservey noted that Cedar Pond monitoring data have shown reduced salinity, increased dissolved oxygen, and documented herring sightings since the 2018 management plan implementation; the committee will submit a supporting letter to the Select Board.
