Historical Commission plans archaeology surveys, cultural initiative

Historical Commission · Meeting of February 11, 2026

Orleans Historical Commission advances archaeology survey planning and launches town-wide cultural coordination initiative. Chair Edmund Marcarelli reported the Form B Project, which documents historic properties, will require two additional years to complete assuming $25,000 per year from the Community Preservation Committee. The commission identified four archaeological sites suitable for potential survey, including one near Eastham and three in Orleans or South Orleans.

Members unanimously approved prior meeting minutes and discussed establishing a cultural planning coordination mechanism through monthly meetings with other town committees.
