Fire-Rescue committee zeroes in on two designs

Orleans Fire-Rescue committee narrowed designs to two options for the new fire-rescue station. Chair David Lyttle's committee directed consultants Pomroy Associates and TGAS to compare a 3-story design (Option 2) and 2-story design (Option 5), with specific focus on cost differentials and rear-entrance placement at a constrained former dental-office site facing a 20-foot elevation drop. Mark Mathison's motion, unanimously approved, formally excluded further consideration of reusing the existing fire station building.
Fire Chief Geof Deering emphasized the new facility must meet national response-time standards the current building cannot achieve. Land survey begins this week, with cut-and-fill analysis due by mid-February ahead of a May Town Meeting presentation.
