Fire-Rescue Building Committee backs gable roof design

ORLEANS — The Fire-Rescue Building Committee voted to recommend a $48 million gable roof design. Chair David Lyttle presided over an 8-0-1 vote recommending the transitional gable roof for the 40,000-square-foot fire station, rejecting a $44 million flat roof option despite the $4 million cost premium. Fire Chief Geof Deering favored the design for its operational benefits.
Select Board Chair Kevin Galligan noted both designs meet MassSave public safety standards at 35 EUI, with the gable option offering better utility-layout flexibility.
