Affordable Housing Trust Fund Board · Meeting of August 20, 2026

ORLEANS — The Orleans Affordable Housing Trust Fund Board voted 7-0 to approve amendments allowing demolition to proceed on the former Governor Prence Motel property at 66-76 Route 6A and approved a $1.5 million Grant Agreement with Preservation of Affordable Housing, Inc. The Select Board also voted 4-0 on similar amendments. The $1.5 million grant will fund the $1.184 million demolition project, with approximately $34,000 covering the gap between demolition costs and $1.15 million in state grants; the remainder will be disbursed at financial closing.

The joint meeting drew substantial public comment raising archaeological and historic preservation concerns, with residents questioning the timing of board votes while Zoning Board of Appeals proceedings are ongoing.
